How to Choose the Right Shed or Garage for Your Home and Business

Sheds are versatile and essential parts of the modern home or business. Whether it’s a space to keep the car safe from the elements, an area to store tools and other garden equipment, or a large shed for industrial or commercial use, people buy sheds for the storage and protection of things they either don’t want inside their home, or the things that just won’t fit!

Because sheds are used for so many different purposes, there’s also an endless choice available for those who are in the market for a new one. So, how do you choose the right shed? There are a number of key considerations that you should take into account.

1. Price

It goes without saying that price will be a factor; what kind of budget do you have, and what do you need that budget to stretch to? If, for example, you’re simply looking to protect your car from the elements, then often a carport (which has a roof, but no sides) will be sufficient in achieving that goal. For example, Titan Garage’s Gable Roof Carport is resilient and rated against the wind ratings in all Australian council areas. It’s also robust, and is able to be built into the landscape or onto a purpose-built concrete slab. It’s aesthetically pleasing and will blend in with the outer decor of your home, but it’s not as expensive as building a complete garage from scratch.

On the other end of the spectrum, if you’ve got a farm to run and need a large shed, there’s the Titan Big Blue Portal Frame, which can be built as large as you need to accommodate all of your farming equipment and tractors. This garage will protect your valuable assets from damage, and is itself built to be tough and hardy, so that it becomes a critical investment in the commercial success of your farm. When you buy a garage or shed, there is the expectation that it will last over the long term, and not rust or otherwise degrade to the point where it needs to be replaced. So, while there are some pricing options, and we can work to most budgets, for the most part you want to view your garage as a real investment with a great deal of long term value. It helps in this sense to be able to stretch the budget a little, if it means obtaining a garage made from higher quality materials.

2. Size

If you’re running an industrial site, then of course you’ll be wanting the Titan Big Blue Industrial Commercial Giant. This large shed can be built as large as necessary to accommodate your business.

On the other hand, if you’re a home user, there are any number of choices for garages that you can go with – from a small tool shed, right through to a large, double-car garage. Here, you’ll need to think about what, exactly, you plan on using the space for. Often, you’ll find that you’ll make use of more space than you think you need. For example, many of our customers that buy our Goldstar Stud Frame Garages are looking for space to store a single car, but end up purchasing a double garage to also hold the BBQ, lawn mower, and other large bits of equipment that can’t be stored anywhere else.

3. What are you going to use it for?

Garages are versatile; much more so than many people consider. Yes, they’re useful places to store cars and gardening equipment, but many of our customers also use them as recreation spaces; a nice double-spaced garage can hold anything from a ping-pong table to a darts board, video game arcade or bar area.

We even see people setting up small home offices in garages in order to have a space separate from the home for their work. So, while it’s easy to purchase a garage thinking about only immediate needs, it always pays to sit down and have a think about how you might want to use the space five, ten or twenty years down the track. Because the great thing about Titan Garages is that they are truly built to last.

Choosing the right garage for you

A good quality garage is much more to a home than a place to dump dirty tools or protect a car from the occasional hailstorm. A good garage is additional space, which can be used for any number of activities. Additionally, for businesses, a garage is an investment and asset that helps improve the value of the business, and the efficiency and standard to which it works. For these reasons, it’s worth carefully considering exactly what you’re going to do with your garage before you make this important investment.
